D young v and eddie colla shot by Warholian

We noticed the good folks over at Warholian swung by Linden Alley recently and took some great pics of the pieces D Young V and Eddie Colla put up recently. Warholian’s got a great flickr set with in depth pictorials on Jesse Hazelip, Chor Boogie and Banksy’s SF campaign. Check it out here.

Gaia, Mars-1, Eddie Colla, D Young V, and Hugh Leeman in SF

Last Sunday, Hi Fructose Magazine joined Baltimore-based street turned fine artist Gaia (who just wrapped up a show at Gallery Heist), as the young artist let loose on the streets of SF. Accompanied by Mars-1, as well as local legends Eddie Colla, D Young V, and Hugh Leeman, the rag-tag group of vandals put together some nice pieces in the Tenderloin, on the Linden Alley Project wall in Hayes Valley, and the Mission, spreading joy and art on a bleak Sunday San Francisco afternoon. Full photo recap after the jump.

Our Flickr Pool – Part One

We’ve been getting a lot of great submissions through our Flickr Pool since starting it and wanted to share some of the images that SF residents have taken in Linden Alley.  The whole reason for us starting this site is to document and promote the transient street art that has been residing in Linden Alley, we wouldn’t be able to do it without our readers, friends, and fans, thanks so much!

The New York Street Advertising Takeover

Some like-minded artists and activists have been running some very successful campaigns against illegal advertising in New York City.  Their microsite just went live; check out their previous campaigns, donate towards the cause and even learn the proper protocol to report illegal advertising.  Congrats to NYSAT for such amazing work, we can’t wait to see what they’ve got cooking for the future.

Air City

A couple weeks back we came down to Linden during the day to put up a massive piece Eddie had recently completed – “Air City”. Decked out in day-glo colors and equipped with official-looking certification, permits and cards we casually began pasting up the piece. About halfway through a truck pulled up and the driver asked us what the fuck we thought we were doing. I approached him and explained that we were artists with permits from such and such city organization and were just doing a street level art installation. The driver of the truck, Wes (who also happened to be the property manager), was so receptive to the idea (and also so against the illegal advertisements that cover his wall every week) that he invited us to come back and visit. With that, the Linden Alley Project was born.

We’ll be curating a monthly exhibit of some of our favorite Bay Area artists here on Linden Alley, so please check back often.

Our buddy Meggs recently visited San Francisco on a US tour from Australia.  While in town we decided to do some last minute wheatpasting with Eddie, pictures after the jump.

No more excuses

What a year 2008 proved to be for political art and for Linden Alley.  Following our massive pro-Obama and anti-Prop 8 campaigns, the city of Oakland decided to ring in the New Year with the slaying of Oscar Grant.  On January 1st at the Fruitvale BART station, Officer Johannes Mehserle shot an unarmed black man, point blank, in the back..  The execution-style slaying of Oscar Juliuss Grant III led to riots in downtown Oakland the following week, bringing the issue to full light on the national stage.  In a non-violent response to Oscar Grant’s murder, Eddie Colla hit up Oakland and Linden Alley on January 9th with a new piece, “No More Excuses”.

More photos after the jump.
